Save yourself some trouble and emerge scummvm. Oh - and I just noticed, that this is curse of monkey island, which is perfectly playable with scummvm. Use winecfg, in tab Graphics to enable Direct3D You have to configure wine correctly to support hardware rendering. Yes Wine supports DirectX8, and partially DirectX9.
